Collagen is found in large quantities in the human body as a structural protein and, like all proteins, is made up of amino acids. It is characterised by high amounts of glycine, L-proline and L-hydroxyproline, in addition to and relative to other amino acids. Several types of collagen are distinguished (type I, II, III, etc.), which are involved in the structural integrity of the body in different ways and at different places.
